PONS IP, leading consultancy firm in comprehensive advice on industrial and intellectual property and new technologies for Spain, Europe and Latin America has once again participated actively in the Transfiere Forum, the main R&D&I meeting in Southern Europe held in Malaga at the FYCMAheadquarters, with the moderation of a round table organised by the CSIC, which has once again placed on the public debate map the importance of promoting data sovereignty in a world where Artificial Intelligence and Big Data are acquiring a major role in companies and public organisations linked to R&D generation.
According to Luis Ignacio Vicente del Olmo, strategic advisor at PONS IP, “the impact of Artificial Intelligence can be perceived in very different sectors, with generative AI already being a major disruptive factor in industrial processes around the world”. Faced with this challenge posed by AI, Vicente del Olmo stated “the role played by the public sector will be fundamental, so it is necessary to know what the current situation is and how it is being applied from different approaches. Among them, there are the scientific teams that are developing the technology, those that are applying it in basic research and those that are doing so in an area of strategic interest such as Defence.”
Together with Luis Ignacio Vicente, these issues were addressed for more than an hour at the round table ‘Data Sovereignty: Artificial Intelligence and Big Data’, leading professionals to learn how AI works such as Javier Bermejo, from the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) and Lieutenant Colonel of the Army, Head of the ICT Department of INTA; Jesús Cerquide Bueno, Head of Machine Learning at the IIIA of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC); Javier Cenarro, from the Centre for the Study of the Physics of the Cosmos (CEFCA-ICTS); Juan Manuel Corchado, Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Salamanca; and Víctor Iglesias Palomo Data Analytics and Governance Service, Directorate General for Digital Strategy and Digital Agency of Andalusia.
The European Forum for Science, Technology and Innovation Transfiere 2024 has brought together more than 500 companies and organisations from the R&D&I ecosystem from around twenty countries, which is a success for an event that is a national and international reference in connecting the entire Spanish innovation system through talent, scientific-technological development, access to investment and business in a very potential meeting that has served to generate global alliances and synergies, as well as to publicise new products, services and innovative projects of companies and public research centres in Spain.
