The Madrid Bar Association was the venue for the last stop of the “Legal Aspects of the Metaverse” on its specific roadshow of presentations that began last November. This also coincided with its editorial launch by La Ley, one of the first manuals on legal aspects of the metaverse and associated technologies, written by professionals who foresee their practical implications.
The meeting also served to recognise the nearly 20 authors of this collective work, many of whom attended and participated in four round tables to analyse the keys to a manual that is intended to be a reference in the legal profession and practice in terms of issues related to the emerging reality of the metaverse. Industrial and intellectual property, privacy, governance and prevention of cybercrime in the metaverse were the central topics of the session, led by Luis Ignacio VicenteStrategic Advisor of PONS IP, and José Luis Amat Reinoso, technology attorney and legal manager of the group of Grupo Aire companies, both editorial coordinators of “Legal Aspects of the Metaverse”.
The session was inaugurated by Eugenio Ribón, dean of ICAM, who highlighted the timeliness of this work’s publication at a time when the legal profession and new technologies must collaborate to meet the demands of citizens and companies in a world where Artificial Intelligence and digitisation are part of our daily work. “In a context in which technology companies are not doing their best economically, there is one matter that has no constraints; the internet is evolving and it will have a direct impact on our lives in less time than expected”, he noted.
Throughout the session, experts in technology such as José Luis Núñez or Carlos Kuchkovsky, together with renowned attorneys and jurists such as Óscar Casado Oliva, Ismael Simón Moreno, Almudena Asensio, Estrella Arana, Cristina Mesa, José Carlos Erdozain, Carmen González, Violeta Arnaiz, Carmen Santo, Ignacio González Rivera, Roberto Martínez Pérez and Fernando Reinoso all pointed out the regulation in view of the imminent arrival of the metaverse as a necessity, but also as agreat opportunity” from which it must be approached with a very strong sense of responsibility. In this way, the new digital scenario based on blockchain and Web3 technology helps create a better experience for citizens and “results in a benefit for future generations”, as Luis Ignacio Vicente mentioned at the ICAM headquarters.
