PONS IP, the global consultancy specialised in Intellectual Property (IP), has announced the appointment of Iván Sempere as its new Deputy Chief Executive Officer, with a focus on executing the company’s growth plans and developing new business opportunities.

Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Sempere will take on a strategic role, particularly focused on business development and strengthening the firm’s presence in key markets, commercial management, institutional representation and the coordination of multidisciplinary teams. His appointment will help reinforce the execution of the company’s strategic plan and further consolidate the organisation’s national and international positioning.

Sempere joins a leading firm and benchmark consultancy in the management and protection of intangible assets, with a strong national and international presence in trade marks, one of Spain’s largest specialist patent teams, and growing capabilities in technology innovation consulting, artificial intelligence governance, and advisory services for projects related to emerging technologies and deep tech.

Iván Sempere has built a solid professional career in the field of Intellectual Property. Following his time at the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), he became Co-Founder and Co-CEO of PADIMA (1998 – June 2026). He holds a PhD in Commercial Law from the University of Alicante, where he was appointed Honorary Professor after more than a decade teaching at the University’s Faculty of Law.

Alongside his significant experience in business and academic institutional representation, having served as European President of Young Entrepreneurs and President of the University-Business Foundation FUNDEUN, Sempere brings more than 30 years of experience in the IP sector. He is widely recognised for his strategic and multidisciplinary approach to the design and management of comprehensive Intellectual Property strategies.

Throughout his career, he has advised national and international organisations across a wide range of sectors and geographies on strategic decisions relating to their intangible assets, helping to transform intellectual property into a driver of competitiveness, differentiation and business growth.

His profile combines professional practice with an outstanding institutional, academic and outreach track record. He previously chaired the Design Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and currently serves on its Board of Directors, as well as its Strategic Planning and Programming Advisory Council.

Sempere is particularly recognised for his expertise in designing global strategies for the protection and enforcement of industrial designs. In recognition of this expertise, he has been appointed a member of the recently established European Design Observatory, managed by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

In this field, he also serves as a European Union expert in EU cooperation projects and coordinates ASIPI Strategic Design, a working group established by the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) to contribute to the evolution of design legislation across Latin America.

At national level, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association for the Defence of Trade Marks (ANDEMA). Academically, he is a regular speaker at conferences, universities, business schools and master’s programmes across Spain, Europe, the United States and Latin America, with more than one hundred presentations and publications focused on innovation, design, intangible asset protection and business strategy.

Following his appointment, Sempere stated: “The IP sector is undergoing a profound transformation that will impact not only the way we protect and enforce IP, but also the way we advise and support our clients. For this reason, IP firms must continue to evolve their services and methodologies to achieve even higher standards of excellence, incorporating the technologies required to become more efficient. It is an honour for me to join the PONS IP team, and I am deeply grateful to its Chief Executive Officer, Nuria Marcos, for this opportunity and for the exciting project we are building together within the company.”

Nuria Marcos, Chief Executive Officer of PONS IP, commented: “Iván’s appointment represents another step forward in our commitment to strengthening PONS IP’s leadership and accelerating the development of our business project. His experience, strategic vision and ability to drive growth in complex organisations will be key assets in successfully addressing the challenges of an increasingly global, competitive and innovation-driven market.”
