The firm will celebrate its ten years in the Basque Country in 2020
PONS IP, a global company specialized in intellectual property and new technologies, opens a new office in Bilbao to strengthen its presence in the Basque Country. PONS IP has a total of 7 offices in Spain, in addition to the Guangnzhou Office in China, the Bogota Office in Colombia and the Brussels Office.
The Bilbao office, located in Avenida Sabino Arana 20, adds up to the presence that PONS IP has maintained in Vitoria since 2010 with the aim of promoting the development of one of the most innovative regions of Spain and Europe. According to data from barrixe –Observatorio de la Innovación de Bizkaia (Bizkaia Innovation Observatory) –, 37% of the companies in the province recognize that they are carrying out a systematic innovation exercise. During 2019 and according to data from the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO), companies and entrepreneurs in the Basque Country applied for the national registration of 1,960 trademarks and 73 patents.
Opening an Office in Bilbao implies the territorial expansion of PONS IP in the Protection and Defense of intangible assets of brands and patents and the support to companies in IP Consultancy. Focused on national and international innovation projects, PONS IP will center its strategy on Basque companies in areas such as Biosciences, Energy, Advanced Manufacturing (Basque Industry 4.0), Food, Cultural and Creative Industries and activity related to the Environment and Sustainable Development.
Joseba Villate, manager of PONS IP Bilbao and Vitoria Offices, values this new opening which comes at a 'crucial' moment for driving an innovative activity in the Basque Country. 'The imminent Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation of the Basque Country 2030 will imply an investment of 20,000 million euros over 10 years to support R&D&i in the region. Our position will therefore be fundamental to support companies and Innovation Agents through resources, knowledge and professionals to protect the results of their innovative activity and support them in the phases of technology transfer.'
For Nuria Marcos, general manager of PONS IP, this new office 'is the answer to our firm commitment to be close to the companies and geographical areas with the greatest development in R&D&i, since Bizkaia and the Basque Country are, without a doubt, international references in innovative activity.'
