World Trademark Review has once more included PONS IP in its annual EU ranking of IP firms. This renowned classification presents the leading IP firms in the EU, taking into account the number of applications processed by each of these. Having appeared among the top firms in Spain and Europe in recent years, PONS IP tops the ranking once again. The Spanish firm has the second highest number of applications in Spain and it is the third most active firm in the EU in this category. In total, 648 applications were submitted last year by the two entities with which PONS operates in terms of Intellectual Property.
When drawing up the ranking, WTR uses data obtained from the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Furthermore, a study is also conducted, which analyses the role of the agency over the past year, marked by the Brexit, the financial situation and recent legal reforms in the EU. One of the challenges facing the EUIPO today, according to the WTR, is volatility in the demand for applications in Europe; although its 2020 Strategic Planpredicts improvements in the operational efficiency of the office, better access to the systems and knowledge of IP and the construction of a convergence network with a global impact. Users have also commented on the role of the EUIPO in tackling recent challenges.
